How to get rid of computer viruses.

PROBLEM
Today in the information age, many computer users suffer slow computers, they don't download fast, boot up at a normal speed, and are very frustrating. I'm going to show you step by step on how to get your computer back to normal.

SOLUTION
This is the way I got my computer from slow boot up, slow Internet (Half the links I clicked when to something irrelevant), now my computer is running great.

1. Make sure your Anti-virus is running, if not, i highly recommended Avast Antivirus (home edition). It is free and does everything paid products do. If you have AVG free i recommended swapping as the viruses may have already disabled your Antivirus software and it actually isn't helping you.

2. Download Spybot Search & Destroy, which is a free program as well. This is a great program that cleaned so much ad-ware from my computer, with over 30 results. It shows information about the virus/ad-ware in the side column which sound very bad when you read them, so get rid of them as soon as possible. Spybot searches for ad-ware in your computer and once finished scanning, it will clean them up. Another feature this program has is the Immunization section, this will allow you to immunize your Internet browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer, which is very helpful. TeaTimer is an add-on to Spybot and is extremely worthwhile as well, its an 'on-access scanner' and if it finds anything when you download something it will notify you.

   **The Viruses may have disabled access to the Safer Networking site as it tracks anti-viruses down from search. If this happens, you need to go to the Spybot directory and simply rename the .exe to 'spybot'. This way the virus won't recognise the program and you can quickly open it up before it tracks it.
   
   
3. Download Malwarebytes Anti-malware which is another free great quality program. This program finds Malware on your computer, you can either click Quick Scan or Full Scan. You may be thinking 'why do I need more then 3 programs to simply get rid of some viruses?' Well this is because not every program finds infections that other programs can. Once you have scanned with the 2 programs (Spybot & Malwarebytes), reboot your computer to refresh everything.

4. Once you have rebooted, if you don't mind waiting for the Avast Scan to finish, open Avast and scan (this may take a long time), This is a general scanner but it is good to have as your main Anti virus as it is very efficient and doesn't hog memory.
5. Download WOT internet security for Mozzilla Firefox. This is one of the most helpful addons for Firefox and is definately worth downloading, in short terms it protects your computer from unsafe downloads or web page viewing. When you search something in Google for example ".. .. ..  cracks" It will show a little image next to each link signalling whether its a good site (green), bad site (red), or a partially unsafe site (orange). You can also rate each site you visit by yourself if you want to.

6. The Final step is to reinforce your Internet Browser with ad blocks. If you are using Firefox I highly recommend 'Ad-block Plus' as you can choose what to block when the next ad comes up, although it shouldn't because you just cleaned all the ad-ware before. If you are using Internet explorer download the addon called IE7 Pro, which includes many features such as AD blocks and more secure browsing.

After this 5 Step tutorial, although it may be time consuming, it is definitely worth it and your computer will be faster by cleaning the virus infections.

Glossary

Ad-ware - Ad-ware or advertising-supported software is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to your computer after the software is installed or while the application is being used.
Malware - Malware, short for malicious software, is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's permission. Will cause a lot of damage if not removed.
Virus - A computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without the consent or knowledge of the owner.
